ABOUT US
We are a landscape design build type business. We have over 44 years experience in the landscape industry which has proven invaluable when faced with challenging site conditions, problems and their solutions. You may not have heard of our business, that's a good thing because we rarely ever advertise our landscape business. The reason is that we are very fortunate to be blessed with many loyal customers that keep us very busy. There is no substitute for repeat business and referral customers, but we are always looking for new customers to become our next repeat customers.
Please check out our photo gallery for a small sampling of our work. Unfortunately many projects were not photographed or were unable to be reprinted for use on this website.
HISTORY
Our Roots date back to 1975. After completion of his formal education and having worked as a foreman with two local firms Mr. Gillespie started his own business. The business was named "Gary F. Gillespie Landscape Designers and Contractors." He felt by using his own name customers knew his name was literally on every design.
In the early years the business was 50% planting and construction (mostly tie walls) and 50% landscape maintenance. He started with borrowed tools from dad and a "hippie van" work truck. With no money or financial backing, every job completed generated money to buy tools needed for the next project. This process went on for many years to come.
By the early to mid 1980's our business grew and was in need of better suppliers of landscape plants and supplies. The answer was to open Colonial Acres Nursery and be our own source of materials. This gave us better control of quality and price for our customers. Colonial Acres Nursery now supplies other landscape professionals and the do it your self home owner with quality landscape plants and supplies
During the 1990's we were expanding our business to include hydro-seeding. This enabled us to work with builders, developers and general contractors to do complete landscape sites. We also started using concrete designer type retaining wall units that replaced natural stone and pressure treated wood in the early 2000's. The use of concrete paving units took off and gave us many more options designing all types of paved surfaces.
As time goes by many aspects of landscaping has changed but somethings will never change. Always give your customer quality service and value. That is our recipe for the next 40 years.
We love what we do and look forward to working with you.
